Samsung NX200 RAW ISO Noise Reduction

The Samsung NX200 offers only two RAW ISO noise reduction settings: Off and On, with On being the default. The NX200 user manual does not say at what ISO noise reduction kicks in, so we've included crops starting from the base ISO of 100. We've also include RAW crops here, for comparison. Note that the RAW crops did not have any sharpening or noise reduction applied during conversion.

See for yourself how the two levels of noise reduction works under daylight-balanced lighting. Click on any of the crops below to see the corresponding full-sized image.

Here, we can see the Samsung NX200's High ISO Noise Reduction kicks in at or around ISO 6,400, as lower ISOs appear very similar no matter the NR setting. By comparing to RAW, particularly the red-leaf crop, we can also see the NX200 is applying some noise reduction at all ISOs, even with the Off setting. Many cameras do, though the Samsung NX200's noise reduction smudges low-contrast detail in the red channel more than most at low ISOs.
