Olympus Stylus-7050 (aka Olympus Mju-7050) Overview

Posted: 08/18/2010

The Olympus µ-7050 (Mju-7050) is the European / Asian name of a compact, point-and-shoot digital camera based around a 1/2.3-inch type CCD image sensor with fourteen megapixel resolution, which following the company's precedent with past models will be known as the Stylus-7050 if it is announced in the US market. The µ-7050's imager sits behind an Olympus-branded 7x optical zoom lens that offers focal lengths ranging from a useful 28mm wide angle to a generous 196mm telephoto. To help fight blur from camera shake, especially at longer focal lenghts, true mechanical image stabilization is provided in the µ-7050.

The rear panel of the Olympus µ-7050 offers up a 3.0-inch LCD display of unspecified resolution, about the same size as the panels found on most cameras these days. This display is the only method of framing and reviewing images, since the Olympus µ-7050 lacks any form of optical or electronic viewfinder.

As well as still images at resolutions up to 4,288 x 3,216 pixels, the Olympus µ-7050 can also capture standard definition movies at high definition 720p (1,280 x 720 pixel) resolution or below, although the frame rate and audio details aren't specified. Images and movies are stored on Secure Digital or SDHC cards, but not the latest SDXC types, which are incompatible with the µ-7050. Power comes from an Li-42B lithium ion rechargeable battery pack.

The Olympus Stylus-7050 (aka µ-7050) has not been announced in the US market at this time.
