Canon T3 Noise Reduction
The Canon Rebel T3's four noise reduction settings provide good flexibility in choosing how you want to make the trade-off between subject detail and noise levels. Options are Disable, Low, Standard and Strong, with Standard being the default. The Canon Rebel T3 applies noise reduction to its JPEGs at all ISOs, so we've included crops at all ISOs in the tables below, though as you will see, the camera's noise reduction is quite subtle below ISO 400.
See for yourself how the noise reduction works under daylight-balanced lighting. Click on any of the crops below to see the corresponding full-sized image.
The above crops show what we would expect: As noise reduction is increased, noise decreases at the expense of fine detail at higher ISOs. The combination of shooting high ISO images with NR turned down to the "Disable" setting and using a good noise-filtering program after the fact can produce very clean images with lots of fine detail in them. Consider starting from RAW files if you want total control over the noise versus detail trade-off.
