Samsung WB210 Overview

Posted 01/05/2011

The Samsung WB210 features a Schneider-Kreuznach branded 12x optical zoom lens with 24 - 288mm equivalent focal lengths in a slim 22.4mm body. Maximum aperture of the lens varies from f/2.9 to f/5.9 across the zoom range. Perhaps one of the most unique features of the Samsung WB210 is a 21mm equivalent Super Wide Shot mode, capturing even more of the scene than the already generous 24mm wide-angle focal length. How this is implemented is however not clear from the press materials. Importantly given its zoom range, the Samsung WB210 includes true optical image stabilization, which will help to fight blur caused by camera shake. Resolution is 14 megapixels, derived from a 16.4MP 1/2.33" CCD sensor.

There's no optical viewfinder, but this is understandable given the strength of the zoom. The Samsung WB210 opts instead for a 3.5-inch touch panel LCD on which images and videos are both framed and reviewed. The WB210 features Samsung's new Smart Access UI system with Home Button/My Screen, which delivers "ultimate ease of use" according to the company.

Other features of the Samsung WB210 include 720p HD movie capture, a built-in flash, Smart Auto mode for both still and movie capture, face recognition, Samsung's Perfect Portrait System, Magic Frame Shot, Beauty Shot, and a variety of fun filter effects such as soft focus, half-tone dot, old movie and enhanced movie.

The Samsung WB210 goes on sale from February 2011, priced at around US$280.
