EOS-1Ds: Luminous Landscape, Yamada post samples By
Michael R. Tomkins, The Imaging Resource (Thursday, September 26, 2002 - 03:35 EDT)Michael Reichmann of the Luminous Landscape website has commenced a review of Canon's recently-announced EOS-1Ds digital camera, and kicks off with a comparison with film cameras.
The preliminary results are exciting to say the least; the 1Ds is certainly looking to have the advantage on 35mm film in Michael's samples, and 645 Medium Format film is looking like it may be meeting a worthy rival. There's still a lot more to come - Michael hasn't had the camera for long yet, and is planning to investigate dynamic range next. Check back for more in a few days, but in the meantime take a look, and prepare to be impressed by the direct comparison with film...
Want to take a look at some full-sized samples yourself? Japanese photographer Yamada Kumio has posted samples at varying ISO ratings from the EOS-1Ds, with a direct comparison to the EOS-1D and EOS-D60. There's also an extremely impressive resolution chart, which suggests to us that we're going to need to get better resolution charts before we complete a full review of the 11 megapixel EOS-1Ds, let alone the 14 megapixel DCS Pro 14n from Kodak!
