New model brings some interesting features to entry-level digital...

Canon Inc. has today announced its new ultra-compact PowerShot A100 digital camera. An entry level unit with 1.2 megapixel imager and 39mm fixed focal length lens, the A100 has some features not often seen at this level - such as multi-point autofocus, user-selectable ISO ratings from 64 to 400, and a relatively speedy 2.5 frames-per-second burst-mode at full resolution. Pricing and availability information for the Canon PowerShot A100 have not yet been announced, but full specifications for the camera are in our database for comparison with other products, and highlights follow:

Autofocus uses 3 automatically selected AF points, or user can lock AF to center point only. Has two manual focus settings - Macro or Landscape (Infinity). Effects modes are Vivid (saturation boosted), Neutral (saturation reduced), Sepia, Black & White, Low Sharpening (in-camera sharpening reduced). Burst-mode rate of 2.5 frames/second requires LCD to be turned off. Flash sync is 1/30 and faster in normal mode, all speeds in slow-synchro mode. Supports direct printing to Canon CP-10 and CP-100 printers.

Record battery life claimed at 380 images without LCD or 100 with LCD for alkalines, 630 images without LCD or 210 with for NiMH. Playback battery life claimed at 90 minutes with Alkaline or 120 minutes with NiMH batteries.

Bundled with IFC-300 PCU USB cable. Optional accessories include AC Adapter Kit ACK 800 (includes AC adapter CA-PS800).
