New service lets pros offer DVDs of photos...

An interesting new offering from PrintRoom.com which we had the opportunity to see demonstrated at PMA this year is the DVD PhotoShow. Pro photographers can create a 'photo album' on DVD, complete with intro menu system, musical soundtrack (from a selection of music offered by PrintRoom), and titles / credits.

Apparently two versions are offered, depending on whether a slightly cheaper DVD-R format is OK, or whether a more expensive format which is compatible with more DVD players is required. The service looks ideal for event-based photography such as weddings, birthdays and the such-like where a relatively large quantity of photos (150 to 500 per disc) can be arranged for easy on-TV viewing. Cost is based on the number of images on the disc, from $49.95 to $69.95. The DVD comes with a customisable case design and an indexsheet showing all the photos on the DVD...

Printroom Announces DVD PhotoShow

Innovative Way to Share Cherished Images

PMA, Orlando, FL, February 24, 2002-Printroom, a leading provider of Web-based digital imaging products and services for professional photographers, announces DVD PhotoShow™, a new way for families and friends to view cherished images on television. DVD PhotoShow debuted at the Photo Marketing Association (PMA) trade show in Orlando, Florida, February 24 - 27.

"DVD PhotoShow is a great tool for professional photographers looking to provide their clients with a high-impact way to relive their wedding or other special events such as graduations and birthday parties. Imagine sitting in front of the television to view those special photos instead of having to get everyone to crowd around your computer," said Carlton Osborne, vice president, business development, Printroom. "Building a custom DVD PhotoShow is simple. Professional photographers and photo enthusiasts will be happy to have such an easy way to put their collection of memories on DVD."

Create a Custom DVD PhotoShow for Yourself or a Customer
Osborne continued, "To create a DVD PhotoShow just upload your photos into a Printroom online album, select desired images and click the 'Add to DVD' button. You can customize your DVD PhotoShow by re-arranging the order of your photos, adding titles and credits, and selecting a musical theme." Printroom albums store digital photographs that have been uploaded to the site directly from a digital camera, plus images that have been scanned and uploaded. A truly unique feature of DVD PhotoShow is that it allows users to create and title distinct chapters, thereby taking full advantage of the DVD format.

DVD PhotoShow is priced at $49.95 for up to 150 photos; $59.95 for 151 to 300 images; $69.95 for 301 to 500 images. Each DVD PhotoShow comes with a customized DVD case that highlights key photos from the photo show, plus an index sheet containing thumbnails of all photos on the DVD.

Professional photographers may use their Printroom Professional Studio to store desired images that may also be used in memorable DVD PhotoShows for clients. Printroom's Professional Studios provide professional photographers with online galleries for soft proofing and ordering. With a Studio, photographers can focus on shooting photos and getting clients, while outsourcing Web-hosting, storage, e-commerce transactions, print processing, order fulfillment, customer support and sales reporting to Printroom.
