Update addresses problems with Canon's digital EOS digicam and RemoteCapture software...

Canon USA Inc. has released a new version of firmware for the EOS D30 digital camera which corrects issues that model encountered with Canon's RemoteCapture program. Although not yet available on the official Canon websites, the company's Chuck Westfall has emailed the firmware to several users who have in turn shared it on the web.

A detailed list of the changes is not available, however we've seen reports from users suggesting that the D30 sometimes misses sending 'events' updating the RemoteCapture software on its status, or sends duplicate events - and we'd assume this is what the new firmware corrects.

The firmware file (an 851KB download) and a 198KB PDF file explaining how to install the update can be downloaded from two different sites - we'd suggest choosing one at random to help spread the bandwidth across the two servers:

  1. John Herbold's D30 firmware page
  2. Fred Miranda's D30 firmware page
Thanks to John and Fred for sharing the firmware with their fellow D30 users...
