Dave goes back for an in-depth look at a production-level model of Sony's 2mpix, 2x zoom Cyber-shot...

I've finally gotten my hands on a production-level version of the Sony DSC-P51 camera I did a "first look" review of back in February. I've now shot a complete set of my standard test photos, analyzed them, and updated the review as a whole.

This camera is the slightly bigger brother to the DSC-P31. It's a two megapixel design, with very similar features, but sports a 2x optical zoom lens, and a street price of $300. Now that I've tested a production model, I like it as well as the prototype. It sports good color and resolution, a nice smattering of features, and a competitive price. (Which price nicely includes a set of high-capacity NiMH AA cells and a nice little charger.)

Overall, a nice camera for novices looking for something more than a bare-bones camera, that'll take good photos and that has enough capabilities to bring back good photos from a range of shooting situations. Check it out!
