meetup.com offers an easy way to find other digital imaging enthusiasts in your area...

We received an interesting email from the folks at meetup.com this morning, telling us that "International Digital Cameras/ Equipment MEETUP Day is Tuesday, July 9 @ 8:00PM". Confused? The meetup.com website, which was just launched ten days ago, offers the ability to find groups of people with shared interests in your area, and arrange to meet up with them at a mutually convenient location.

If you'd like to meet other people in your area interested in digital cameras, go to the meetup.com website, enter your location, and you'll be presented with a selection of the nearest venues - you needn't be in a big city to be presented with somewhere nearby; 540 locales and almost 12,000 venues in 22 countries are listed. For example, when we entered our zip code in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, we were offered a choice of three venues - two within 20 miles, and one within 30 miles. The locations offered were a local Circuit City store, coffee shop and bowling alley...

Vote for the venue that's most convenient / suitable to you, and at the end of the voting period the most popular venue will be chosen. You'll then be given a chance to RSVP, and if five people RSVP then you'll be advised that the meeting is on; if there's not five people, then the meet will be cancelled. Meetups happen at the same (local) time and date worldwide, and for the digital camera meetups, this is 8:00pm on the second Tuesday of every month.

Sounds like a great way to share digital photography tips, try out other people's kit and maybe make a few new friends to boot. Hop on over to meetup.com to find the details of your local meetup!
