Mike Chaney offers his first opinions; Peter Burian provides sample images...

Mike Chaney, author of the popular imaging utility Qimage Pro (which, incidentally, now offers support for the camera's RAW files through a link to the manufacturer-provided conversion software) has posted an interesting article detailing his initial impressions of the Fuji FinePix S2 Pro. He concludes:

"The S2 is an interesting entry into a long line of new DSLR cameras. A 6 megapixel Super CCD is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Historically, Super CCD sensors are able to pull out slightly more detail than a conventional Bayer mosaic layout of the same pixel count, so I expect the S2 to do very well in the lineup of true 6 MP cameras."

For more, hop over to Mike's site and read the whole article.

Peter K. Burian, who has been mentioned quite a few times on our news page in the past, is also working on a preview of the FinePix S2 Pro. Peter is a Canadian stock photographer who tests cameras, lenses, printers, etc. for photo magazines such as PHOTO LIFE, eDIGITAL PHOTO and PC Photo, as well as the co-author of ten Magic Lantern Guide books, including the Guide to the Nikon N70, N50, N80, and the F100. He's kindly provided us with a number of sample images from the S2 Pro, which can be seen below. They've been resized, so obviously not being direct from the camera you can't use them to judge resolution or sharpness, but they do nicely show off the camera's color and tone, as well as the exposure accuracy. Incidentally, Peter's images were made at the World Jousting Championships, and you can find more information at the wcja.ca website.

Many thanks to Peter for permission to reproduce his images on our site!
