Canon digicams help double profits

An article from the Associated Press says that camera manufacturer Canon has doubled its profits in the first quarter of this year as compared to 2002.

The article goes on to say that Canon is attributing the profits largely to digital camera sales, and that it expects profits for the full year to rise some 26% to US$2 billion, with total sales increasing 7% to US$26 billion.

Total camera sales for the first quarter were US$984 million. The PowerShot G3 and PowerShot S45 were singled out as strong sellers, and film camera sales apparently continued to slip.
