In its second new scanner announcement of the week, UMAX Technologies Inc. has unveiled what it is calling "the first 2400 dpi scanner for professionals and semi-professionals".

The PowerLook 1000 is sold in two bundles - either with MagicScan software for $399, or with RGB software and a transparency adapter for $599. The scanner itself has a hardware resolution of 2400 x 2400 dpi, a maximum optical density of 3.0 Dmax, a choice of both IEEE-1394 FireWire and USB interfaces and a 42-bit color depth.

New UMAX PowerLook 1000 is First 2400dpi Legal Size Scanner for Professional Market

New scanner is designed for graphic design, catalog, publishing, and photography markets

DALLAS, TX., July 15, 2003 -- UMAX Technologies, Inc. today announced the UMAX PowerLook 1000, the first 2400 dpi scanner for professionals and semi-professionals. The PowerLook 1000 is the ideal scanner for the graphic, publishing, production, catalog design, and photography markets.

The PowerLook 1000 features FireWire (IEEE-1394) and USB interfaces, providing fast scans and easy connectivity. The 42-bit color depth allows for billions of colors to be reproduced in the image. The pre-focus system automatically calibrates the focus when starting the scanner to provide sharp scans.

"The UMAX PowerLook 1000 is packed with features and premium software titles to help PC and Mac users tackle their critical projects right out of the box," said Christabel Chen, vice president of sales and marketing for UMAX Technologies, Inc. "This scanner is truly versatile, providing an ideal scanning foundation for any graphics, business or vertical application."

The PowerLook 1000 is packaged with software titles for a variety of market-specific bundles, including LaserSoft Imaging's SilverFast Ai 6.0 with IT8 Calibration Targets (one reflective 5"x7" and one transmissive 4"x5" calibration target).

SilverFast Ai combines a very intuitive user interface with a sophisticated and professional control. Beginners and professionals will appreciate the unique real-time controls and the intelligent automatic functions as well as the option to manually adjust the image at any point.

The RGB software bundle includes binuscan PhotoPerfect RGB, an automatic color correction software application, and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, a powerful digital imaging solution for photographers and graphic designers.

For a limited time offer, PowerLook 1000 users can upgrade from Photoshop Elements to Photoshop 7.0, a $600 value, for just $299.
