UMAX Technologies Inc. will officially announce two new digital camera models on Monday, both featuring similar specifications with the exception of lenses and body styling.

The UMAX AstraPix 630 and AstraPix 670 both have 3.3 megapixel CCD imagers yielding resolutions of 2048 x 1536 pixels, as well as 16MB of built-in flash memory, SD Card slot, USB 1.1 connectivity and NTSC / PAL video output. The AstraPix 630, which has an MSRP of $179, features a fixed focal-length lens equivalent to 39mm on a 35mm camera. The AstraPix 670, at an MSRP of $229, replaces this with a 37 - 108mm equivalent lens. Both cameras are available immediately...

UMAX Ships Stylish New AstraPix 670 and AstraPix 630 3.3 Megapixel Digital Still and Video Cameras

Aimed at photography enthusiasts and blooming photographers, the AstraPix 670 and 630 feature a CCD, LCD, and auto focus for $229 and $179

DALLAS, TX., Sept. 15, 2003 -- UMAX Technologies, Inc. today announced the elegantly designed AstraPix 670 and the sleek AstraPix 630 for experienced and beginning digital photographers. The AstraPix 670 and 630 offer features usually found in more expensive cameras, including the ability to capture both still images and video with audio, a 3.3 megapixel CCD for crisper, more vibrant pictures, and a built-in microphone and speaker for audio narration and playback. The AstraPix 670 also features a 3x optical zoom for accurate, detailed close ups. These exciting new cameras are available now with an MSRP of $229 AstraPix 670 and $179 AstraPix 630 at www.umax.com.

The AstraPix 670 and 630 capture video and audio with a resolution of 320 x 240. The cameras are PC and Mac compatible and feature a 1.5-inch LCD, an expandable SD card slot, 16MB of built-in memory, a 2 and 10 second self-timer, optical viewfinder, flash, and MGI PhotoSuite and MGI VideoWave for photographers to get started right out of the box.

For photography enthusiasts, the camera offers a focal length of F2.66/5.69mm ~ F4.9/16.29 mm (37mm ~ 108 MM related to 35 mm film) for the AstraPix 670 and a focal length of F3.3/6.21mm (39mm related to 35mm film) for the AstraPix 630. Working area for the cameras is 0.2 m ` infinity with a macro of 10 ~ 50 cm (AstraPix 670). The camera also features automatic exposure (1/3 sec. ~ 1/1000), long-term 1 sec. ~ 8 sec, manual -2EV to +2EV in 1/3 steps. White balance controls are either automatic or manual (daylight, shade, tungsten, fluorescent, black and white).

The AstraPix 670 and 630 include MGI PhotoSuite 4 SE, MGI VideoWave 4 SE, USB cable, camera bag, hand strap and 2 AA batteries.
