Olympus E1 "First Look" updated!|
(Tuesday, September 16, 2003 - 14:25 EDT)
I've now had some fairly extensive hands-on with a near-production level Olympus E1, so have updated my First Look review of it in some depth.
Olympus hasn't yet released E1s with final image-quality tweaks applied, so I've still not shot my standardized test subjects, but there's full timing data, and a pretty thorough detailing of features and functions. We did shoot a range of "gallery" photos though, just keep in mind that the final image quality will be noticeably better.
None of the E1 photos you're seeing on the web at this point in time have noise-suppression processing applied yet (hence the relatively high noise levels), nor is the in-camera image sharpening in final form (hence the slight softness of the images).
Stay tuned, I'll have a further update in another month or so, whenever Olympus can get me a unit that's in final trim, but I have to say that my experience with this late-model prototype unit was *very* positive. Check it out!
