Nikon USA has today announced its new Coolwalker MSV-01, a portable device for storing and viewing up to 30GB of digital images in JPEG, TIFF and NEF (RAW) formats.

Weighing just 12.3 ounces and with dimensions of 3.2 x 5.1 x 1.4 inches, the Coolwalker features a 2.5 inch LCD display and can store roughly 10,000 6 megapixel JPEG ("Fine" compression) images. The device accepts images from CompactFlash cards (including Microdrives), and has USB 2.0 connectivity for PC transfer or connection to a PictBridge-compatible printer. A remote control unit and NTSC / PAL video out connectivity allows for viewing slideshows of images on a TV. Image histograms and shooting information can be viewed on the device, which also supports QuickTime movie and WAV audio playback. Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
