Japanese digicam manufacturer Konica Minolta has announced a new digital camera targeted at the construction and engineering fields.

Offering compliance with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's CALS standard (an abbreviation of "Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support") which defines specific requirements for digital images including resolution, the Konica Minolta DG-4W is a three megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom lens that ranges from a wide 28mm to 85mm. Images are stored on Secure Digital cards, and power comes from AA batteries or an optional proprietary Lithium Ion rechargeable. Pricing has not yet been announced, but the DG-4W will go on sale from March 19th with a monthly production of 1,500 units.
