Harbortronics: D70 remote, time-lapse by IR

The folks at Harbortronics, the company behind the ingenious DigiSnap line of remote shutter release / intervalometer products for various digital cameras, has come up with a clever way to offer their product for Nikon's D70 digital SLR without needing to modify the camera itself in any way.

Back in March, Harbortronics began modifying D70s to add a 2.5mm jack with which their DigiSnap devices could be interfaced, but obviously this modification wasn't endorsed by Nikon. The new development for DigiSnap means that the modification is no longer necessary, though - instead, an IR output function for the devices allows the D70 to be remotely controlled via a lightweight fiberoptic cable that is taped to (or placed near the front of) the camera.

Nikon D70 owners wanting a manual remote shutter release and the ability to do time-lapse photography will definitely want to investigate the new solution, which consists of the DigiSnap 2100 (US$150), IR output feature (compatible with existing DigiSnap 2100s if you already own one, and costing $30), and 2100-IR cable ($30 for 3 feet, and $0.50 per additional foot if you need a longer cable).

Original Source Press Release:

Harbortronics is excited to announce a very simple method of performing time-lapse, and manual remote shutter release with the Nikon D70. The DigiSnap 2100 now includes an "IR Output" feature, which includes signalling particular to the D70. The 2100-IR cable is also now available, providing a tough, lightweight plastic fiber optic cable which can be taped to the front of the D70, or simply placed near the front of the camera.

The standard DigiSnap 2100, compatible with a wide range of cameras, is priced at $150. The new IR Output feature is available for $30, and is compatible with every DigiSnap 2100 ever built! The 2100-IR cable is priced at $30, and is normally 3 ft long, but can be provided in essentially any length for an additional $0.50 per foot.
