Canon's EOS-20D digital SLR. Courtesy of Canon, with modifications by Michael R. Tomkins. EOS 20D: new firmware

Canon Japan has today released a new firmware update for its EOS 20D digital SLR.

The Canon EOS 20D v1.1.0 firmware incorporates a fix for problems with horizontal line noise in high ISO images using the internal flash. The update also adds three new menu languages - Russian, Korean, and Traditional Chinese.

Detailed instructions for how to apply the firmware update can be found on Canon's website. As always with any firmware update, we caution readers to follow the instructions carefully (and given the problems some users had with a past 20D update, pay particular attention to the fact that the lens should be removed from the camera before updating). When performed properly, firmware updates are usually a painless process, but if done incorrectly they can be an easy way to turn your camera into a very expensive paperweight.
