Sigma Corporation of Japan has today announced a whopping thirteen new lenses in the runup to this year's Photo Marketing Association Spring tradeshow, to be held in Orlando, Florida.

Of the thirteen lenses, three are designed with a reduced APS-C image circle and are solely for use on digital SLRs, while the remaining ten are 35mm lenses and can be used on either film or digital SLRs. Eight of the new lenses are zooms, while the remainder are primes (fixed focal length lenses) varying from 30mm to 800mm focal lengths.

Pricing and availability information are not available at this time. Preliminary specs and product photos are available for the APS-C lenses, which will ship in Canon, Nikon, Sigma, and (for one model) Pentax mounts. Further details can be found in the press releases below.

DG version of ten telephoto lenses is available

Sigma DG Lens Line-up

APO 50-500mm F4-6.3 EX DG, APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG, APO 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG OS, APO 100-300mm F4 EX DG, APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG, APO 300-800mm F5.6 EX DG, APO 180mm F3.5 EX DG, APO 300mm F2.8 EX DG, APO 500mm F4.5 EX DG, APO 800mm F5.6 EX DG.

Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the ten DG EX telephoto lenses. Recently, the demand for digitally optimized lenses increases rapidly as digital single lens reflex camera increases its market share. Sigma Corporation has started production of wide-angle lens DG series in 2000 and the number of DG series reached to thirteen models as of February 14, 2005. This time ten new EX telephoto lenses including three single focus telephoto lenses (APO 300mm F2.8 EX, APO 500mm F4.5 EX APO 800mm F5.6 EX) will be introduced to market as DG lens series, which demonstrates high performance with digital single, lens reflex cameras.

APO 50-500mm F4-6.3 EX DG
This lens ensures a superior level of precision from 50mm standard to 500mm ultra telephoto focal length range. Four elements of Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass effectively compensate for chromatic aberrations. High optical performance is demonstrated throughout the entire zoom range.

APO 70-200 mm F2.8 EX DG
This telephoto zoom lens has a large maximum aperture of F2.8 that is constant throughout the zoom range. To ensure high quality images at all zoom settings, like a fixed focal length lens, it uses four two pieces of Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass

APO 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 EX DG OS
Using Sigma's original OS (Optical Stabilizer) function, two types of sensors inside the lens detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera. By moving a portion of the optical system to compensate for movement, this function delivers outstanding results in compensating for shaking of the camera.

APO 100-300mm F4 EX DG
This telephoto zoom lens provides a large F4 aperture at all focal lengths. With minimal light-fall-off, superior peripheral brightness is ensured. It’s the ideal lens for digital SLR cameras.

APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG
This lens offers F2.8 even at 300mm zoom setting and allows you to determine the picture composition you want without having to change your vantage point.

APO 300-800mm F5.6 EX DG
This lens covers the telephoto range from 300mm to the ultra-telephoto range up to 800mm. By continuously varying the angle of view from 8.2º to 3.1º, the lens takes a lot of the footwork out of picture composition.

APO 180mm F3.5 EX DG
Floating Inner Focus system moves two lens groups within the lens, so the lens' physical length remains unchanged. This technique also maintains good correction for Spherical Aberration and Astigmatism, and provides extremely high optical performance from infinity to 1:1 Macro.

APO 300mm F2.8 EX DG
This lens incorporates two Extraordinary Low Dispersion glass elements to produce sharp and high contrast images. A drop in filter holder can be inserted near the rear of the lens, and circular polarizing filters can be used.

APO 500mm F4.5 EX DG
ELD glass maintains high resolution throughout the shooting range, and at all aperture settings. It employs drop –in filter that can be inserted near the rear of the lens, and circular polarizing filters can be used.

APO 800mm F5.6 EX DG
This lens utilizes ELD glass to ensure high contrast at all aperture settings for high image quality. A drop-in type filter can be inserted near the rear, and circular polarizing filters can be used.

  • Three pieces of Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements and three aspherical lens elements produce top quality optical performance.
  • Inner focusing system ensures the length of the lens remains unchanged whilst controlling aberrations.
  • Equipped with HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) system
  • Minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4”) at all focal lengths.
  • Relatively compact, lightweight for an ultra wide-angle zoom lens.

Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens.

10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens allows enjoyment of super wide-angle photography and it is a very powerful tool for indoor shooting and landscape photography with APS-C size image sensors of digital SLR cameras.

Wide angle of view (102.4°at 10mm and 63.8°at 20mm) offers the photographer greater freedom of expression.

Three SLD glass elements are employed for effective compensation of color aberration, which is a common problem with super-wide angle lenses. One piece of glass mold and two hybrid aspherical lenses, offer excellent correction for distortion, as well as all types of aberration.

This lens is equipped with an inner focusing system, and the models which are equipped with HSM system provide quiet, high speed autofocus shooting and also offer full time manual focusing. It has a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4”) at all focal lengths. The non-rotating lens barrel perfectly suits the petal shaped lens hood. A circular polarizing filter can also be used conveniently.

Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the new 18-200 F3.5-6.3 DC lens.

This high zoom ratio lens is exclusively designed for digital SLR cameras and capable of covering a wide range of focal lengths from wide-angle to telephoto. Two Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements and two hybrid aspherical lenses offer the utmost correction for all types of aberrations, and enables this extended range super zoom lens to be housed in a compact and lightweight construction of 70mm (2.8”) diameter, and 78.1mm (3.1”) in length, and weighing just 405g/14.3oz. The new lens coating reduces flare and ghost, which is a common problem of digital cameras and also creates an optimum color balance. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm (17.7”) at all focal lengths and has maximum magnification of 1:4.4.

The lens design incorporates an inner focusing system, which prevents the front of the lens from rotating, making it particularly suitable for using circular polarizing filters and petal shaped lens hoods. The overall length of the lens does not change during focusing, ensuring convenient handling and ease of use. A zoom lock switch eliminates ‘zoom creep’ during transportation, a convenient addition when traveling.
