Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung has a fairly large booth at this year's PMA, on which it is demonstrating quite a range of digital cameras.

In recent years, Samsung has gained a reputation as one of the companies that unveils the largest digicam lineups at PMA, with many models sharing a similar foundation (but with slight tweaks such to things such as sensor resolution, firmware or camera styling to differentiate the models). This year, we've heard that Samsung is attempting to pare down its offerings as it tries to rationalise the lineup, and this is reflected in the fact that there are just nine models listed below, rather than as many as 15 or so as in past years. (We emphasise the word "just" in a rather tongue-in-cheek manner; this is still a lot of digital cameras from one manufacturer, by anybody's standards!)

Samsung's models span a range from entry-level models with fixed focal-length lenses to higher-spec cameras with Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan branded zoom lenses. One thing the models have in common is resolution, and lots of it - even the entry-level cameras start from four megapixels, and the top models reach as high as seven megapixels, about as high as the top competing models from other manufacturers at the show.

Note that not all of these models are entirely new; some (such as the A400, A5, A6 and A7) have been shipping in Europe and/or Asia for a while now. They're new to the US market however, and definitely worthy of mention.
