Amongst a number of companies reporting their financial information in the last couple of days is consumer electronics giant Sony Corp.

According to the Photo Marketing Newsline International, Sony ended the year through March 31st 2005 with a ¥163,838 million net income, on net sales of ¥6,565,010 million. This represented an 85% increase on profits, from net sales that were about 5% below 2004 levels.

Things aren't all rosy for Sony, however. The company saw sales of flat panel televisions, digital still cameras and LCD rear projection televisions increase, but sales of CRT televisions and portable audio products (including mobile phones) dropped, leaving overall sales figures for the electronics division flat. The Sony group also reported a larger fourth quarter loss (Jan - Mar) in 2005 than it did in 2004 by some 48% - ¥56,450, as compared to ¥38,155 in 2004.
