A press release from Nikon Inc. today announces its new Nikon Coolpix S3 digital camera, an update to its existing Coolpix S1 model.

The Coolpix S3, as with its siblings the S1 and S2, is designed with a mind for style (which is actually what the S designation stands for, we're told). Changes between the new and old models are relatively few; most notably an upgraded image sensor that now offers a resolution of six megapixels, instead of the five megapixel resolution of the former camera. Where the Coolpix S1 has a silver aluminum finish, the S3 has a matte black finish. Nikon tells us that other specifications are identical to the previous model, which will continue to be available for some time.

The new Nikon Coolpix S3 will ship this month at a price of $429.
