Canon's EOS-1Ds Mark II clearly approaches "ultimate" status for a digital SLR, at least in today's market.

The original EOS-1Ds was a breakthrough product when it came out almost three years ago now, and the new Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II updates and improves almost every aspect of camera operation. In our tests, the Canon 1Ds Mark II turned in an impressive performance, but does appear to share the "red problem" we found in the EOS-1D Mark II. (The workaround is to shoot subjects containing highly saturated reds in RAW mode, and then use Canon's Digital Photo Professional software to convert to JPEG format for final use.)

Bottom line though, this is an absolutely amazing camera, easily eclipsing the resolution and noise levels (grain structure) of 35mm film. (And probably medium format as well.) Read our Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II review for all the details!
