A news item published by Hong Kong-based Asia Times Online notes that a division of Korean consumer electronic giant Samsung has jumped to the top of digicam sales charts in its home market.

According to the item, Japan's Olympus Corp. fell from first to fourth place market share in the first half of this year, deposed by Samsung Techwin Co. with a 25% market share. Sony Corp. followed in second place with an 18% share, followed by Canon and Olympus with 15% respectively.

Samsung Techwin is expecting to sell 4.5 million digital cameras this year, nearly double the 2.53 million it sold last year. The company is planning to continue the dramatic increase in sales volume, with 12 million Samsung digicams expected to be manufactured in 2007.
