In its second announcement of the day, German camera brand Minox has joined the rapidly swelling ranks of manufacturers offering a ten megapixel compact digicam.

The Minox DC 1011 looks to be a fairly straightforward rebranding of Taiwanese company Premier Image Technology's DSA350 model, with even the styling unchanged except for the logo and model number. The DC1011 uses a 1/1.7" CCD image sensor yielding a maximum resolution of 3648 x 2736 pixels, coupled to a MINOCTAR-branded 3x optical zoom lens with a fairly standard 35 - 105mm focal length range and a maximum aperture of f/2.8 - f/4.8. Images are framed or reviewed on a 2.5", 230,000 pixel LCD display, and can also be framed on the camera's optical viewfinder - something that's rather rare to find on most digicams these days.

Storage on the Minox DC1011 is catered for with a Secure Digital card slot, plus 26MB of internal memory. Power comes from a proprietary Lithium Ion battery, and connectivity includes NTSC / PAL switcheable video, plus a USB 2.0 High Speed port. The camera also offers an AVI movie mode with audio.

Pricing and availability have not been announced at this time, but alongside the standard DC 1011 model Minox will be offering the "Minox DD 1011 Carat", a version which is identical in all respects except for the body finish and product bundle. The body is coated in a thin layer of 24 carat gold, with ten 2mm / 0.03 carat diamonds set into the trim ring around the lens. The bundle includes a wooden box in which to store the camera.

Original Source Press Release:

MINOX DC 1011: Film quality from a new compact digital camera with 10 Mega pixel resolution

This is top drawer compact camera digital photography with a highly impressive resolution of 10.1 mega pixels and equipped with almost every feature that could be expected in a compact camera, the new MINOX DC 1011. Despite its pocket-size dimensions and lightweight elegant aluminium body, this camera has a high class lens and an extremely powerful CCD image senor. This combination ensures brilliant image quality and terrific detail in every shot. Photography with the DC 1011 is exciting as it can cover any number of unexpected possibilities. And with 10 mega pixels, large enlargements or prints in poster size are no longer a problem with a digital camera.

For just about every shot the Minox DC 1011 is simple to use but very precise. Whether in automatic mode with auto-focus, aperture setting and white balance where the photographer may concentrate solely on his subject or in manual mode where he can control all the important features, the possibilities to introduce individual creativity are immense. Various selectable scene modes provide basic settings, for example night-time or portrait. Practical and ergonomically designed menu settings and a systematic menu complete the very well laid out features of the MINOX DC 1011.

What can help when looking for detail in an image is the 10.4 digital in addition to the 3x optical zoom which provides an enormous resolution. As a protection against blurred images when using the long zoom range, the DC 1011 has a built-in electronic image stabilizer. The camera sensor acts like a third hand when shaking of the camera is registered when the shutter is released. A micro processor calculates edges and contours and allocates any blurred pixels to smooth them automatically. This feature also comes in very handy under difficult light conditions, for long-time exposures or hand-held macro shots.

The generously dimensioned, brilliant and sharp 2,5” TFT colour display allows a clear view of all you want to see. It is also possible for several people to conveniently view the shots from different angles as a special anti-reflex coating minimizes reflections in bright sunlight.

Additionally, the DC 1011 boasts an optical viewfinder which is highly desirable to many photographers.

The images, video-clips with VGA resolution or voice recordings are stored on SD cards with a maximum capacity of 2 GB. Additionally, the MINOX DC 1011 comes with an internal memory of 32 mega bites. Fast and uncomplicated transfer of the image files to a computer can be carried out via the digital USB interface. The power supply comes from a replaceable powerful Lithium-Ion battery.

Complete with the MINOX DC1011 are a Lithium-Ion battery, mains adapter, an ever-ready-case, wrist strap, USB and video cable as well as a CD with software and user manual.
