Just noticed a post on the site of our friends over at dcresource.com that Canon USA has posted a safety notice for their popular A530 and A540 digital cameras.

The IR Newsletter!
According to Canon's notice, the spring that holds the door open can cause a short circuit when it comes in contact with the battery plate, causing it to heat up. The issue affects cameras whose serial numbers begin with 21, 22, 23, and 24.

Canon says it will repair affected cameras free of charge, regardless of warranty status. Owners of cameras with the indicated serial numbers are advised not to use the camera until it is repaired by Canon.
