DXG USA has today officially launched its new DXG-589V digital camera, a model which we first saw on display back at the Photo Marketing Association tradeshow a month ago.

The DXG-589V is a five megapixel CMOS sensor-based model with a 7.5mm F3.1 fixed focal length lens, and includes 32MB of built-in memory (with 13MB available for image storage) plus an SD / MMC card slot. The 589V can capture movies in MPEG4 AVI format at a framerate of 20fps, in either QVGA or VGA resolution.

There's no optical viewfinder, with all interaction taking place via a large 3.0" low-temperature polysilicon LCD display offering 230,400 pixels (320 x 240 x 3 colors). A built-in LED-based flash strobe has a range of just 2-3 feet, and with the exception of white balance (where you have a choice of auto or four presets) and exposure compensation (+/-2.0EV in 0.3EV steps), all other functions are controlled automatically.

The DXG-589V offers NTSC / PAL video output and USB 2.0 High Speed connectivity, and draws power from an NP-60 Lithium Ion battery. The device can function as a voice recorder, and a music player. A cluster of four very familar-looking buttons should top off anybody familiar with Sony's PlayStation products to the fact that the 589V can also function as a gaming device. Twenty built-in 2D or 3D games are available, but there's no provision for adding new games. Given that the button layout is identical in terms of shape and even color to Sony's PlayStation controls, one would hope that DXG has licensed the design, which is protected by at least one current US trademark.

The DXG 589V is available immediately from US retailers including Best Buy and Circuit City priced at $199.99.

City of Industry, CA, April 16, 2007 - DXG USA (www.dxgusa.com), one of the fastest growing digital camera manufacturers, announced today the new ultra-compact DXG-589V, digital camera/camcorder and portable entertainment center with gaming features in one pocket-sized device. Ultra-compact, sporty, and highly portable, the DXG-589V is the perfect camera and camcorder for people who are always on the go.

Ultimate One-Stop Entertainment Center - Entertainment on the Go!
One great feature of the camcorder is its revolutionary flip screen that can be rotated to create the familiar Gameboy shape, complete with a video game toggle dial, that lets users easily play 20 built-in full-color 2D or 3D video games the way they are used to playing them. Another unique feature is the ability to directly record video from TV, DVD players and VCRs to take and watch anywhere you go. Video files can be saved onto SD cards to be enjoyed later -- perfect for travel, vacations, and road trips.

The DXG-589V also works as a digital music player to listen to your favorite music while exercising or on a train or plane; and as a digital voice recorder for taping self-reminders, school lectures, and messages. Highly-portable, compact and slim, the DXG-589V easily fits in a pocket to capture video and stills on the fly. Why carry multiple devices when you can have the DXG-589V?
