Google Maps integration, a tag cloud and many other improvements highlight the new release.

Ovolab has released Geophoto 1.1, its $19.95 Mac OS X photo browser that organizes images by location. Highlights of the new version include Google Maps integration through a loupe, a tag cloud, plus many cosmetic and functional improvements.

According to the company, "You don't need a high-end, GPS-equipped camera in order to use Geophoto. Simply drag photos to the correct location, and they will be pinned to that spot on Earth. Or, you can choose 'Set Location...' from the Item menu and type in the name of the city or landmark in which your photos were taken, and Geophoto will automatically place them in that location."

Geotags are only stored with the original photo if you "Update Original with Location Information." Otherwise, location information is only available in the Geophoto library you are working on.

Geophoto can also browse millions of photos on Flickr that already contain location information. The program can also save geotags in the photos on your own Flickr account.

Original Source Press Release:

Ovolab Geophoto 1.1: introducing the loupe for precise positioning of photos.

Torino, Italy (Europe) -- April 23, 2007 -- Ovolab(R) today released version 1.1 of Ovolab Geophoto, its geotagging application for Mac OS X.

Geophoto is an all-in-one application for geotagging, collecting, browsing and sharing pictures.

Geophoto displays photos on a three-dimensional representation of the Earth, pinned to the location where each photo was taken. The user can pan, zoom and fly through the photos, thanks to high-resolution satellite images of the Earth.

Users can easily drag their pictures to a specific location on the globe in order to "geotag" them. Once geotagged, pictures can be shared with other users and will automatically appear in the correct location on the Earth when opened in Geophoto.

New in version 1.1 are the Loupe, which uses Google Maps to provide a close-up view of the area below the mouse; and the Tag cloud, a heads-up display of the terms used to tag every picture, which also serves as a convenient way to browse photos.

Ovolab Geophoto provides seamless integration with iPhoto and Flickr, where a vast community already shares geotagged pictures.

Geophoto is a perfect tool for photographers, for travelers, for people who wish to explore new places in the world, or get the inspiration for a trip. And it is a wonderful tool even if you're not a traveler or a photographer: you'll be able to discover faraway places through pictures taken by Flickr users, or simply organize the photos you've taken with your friends, by pinning them to their neighborhoods.

Geophoto supports GPS data stored in JPEG files, Camera RAW images and other formats.

Ovolab Geophoto is available immediately from the Ovolab online store at the price of $19.95.
