Support for the new Media Transfer Protocol highlights the update.

Canon has released Version 1.1.0 of the EOS Digital Rebel XTi/EOS 400D firmware incorporating the following fixes and improvements:

1. Adds support for the new Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) USB protocol.

2. Corrects errors in the Simplified Chinese menu screens.

MTP is a set of custom extension to Microsoft's Picture Transfer Protocol allowing devices other than digital cameras to use the protocol. Windows XP supports MTP with the installation of Windows Media Player 10 or later. Windows Vista implements MTP natively. Mac OS X supports MTP using XNJB.

Version 1.1.0 firmware is being released for cameras with firmware up to Version 1.0.5. If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.1.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

The update is available from the Canon BeBit Web site.
