Olympus Corp. is preparing to construct a new factory in Vietnam that will supply components for digital cameras, reports Japan's Corporate News Network.

The new plant - scheduled to commence operations from October 2008 - will construct lens assemblies to be used in the company's compact digital cameras. The factory, which will also be used to construct medical equipment from early 2010, will occupy some 40,000 square meters on a 120,000 square meter site in Dong Nai province, Vietnam. Olympus is set to invest some ¥5 billion in the project.

More details can be found on the JCN website.
