Sony: More details on the upcoming flagship DSLR

Sony Corp. has today confirmed that the company's just-announced full-frame Exmor CMOS image sensor will be featured in the company's flagship DSLR.

The sensor, which is to be fabbed at Sony Semiconductor Kyushu Corp.'s Kumamoto Technology Center in Japan, has 24.6 megapixel resolution. Even with twice the active area of an APS-C sensor, Sony will be mounting the full-frame imager in its new flagship SLR on a moveable platter, allowing for in-camera Super SteadyShot image stabilization.

A mockup or early prototype of Sony's Alpha flagship model is on display on Sony's booth, and we've just posted a gallery shot at the company's morning press conference which includes photos of the flagship camera body itself, as well as the new full-frame Exmor CMOS imager both by itself and mounted in the corresponding Super SteadyShot mechanism. There's also some images from the press conference.
