Further official samples shot with Pentax's upcoming K-7 single-lens reflex digital camera have been posted on Pentax Europe's website.

Adding to the information available from several samples posted recently by Pentax Japan, the new photos are available not only as JPEG compressed files, but also as Adobe DNG Raw files. The same two photos are available in both formats, allowing users to reprocess the Raw data themselves if they desire. It should be noted that both photos have been captured using an early version of Pentax's firmware, K-7 ver 0.20. Full EXIF data is available in the JPEG files, if you don't have a DNG Raw-aware application installed but still want to view the images.

Accessing the new samples is a slightly convoluted process. To see them do the following, paying particular attention to the final step when downloading the DNG Raw versions:

  1. Visit https://network.pentax.eu/ in your web browser

  2. Click "Gastzugang" (Guest Access) to enter the site without a login.

  3. Click "English" to set the language.

  4. Click "Explorer".

  5. Click "Digital SLR".

  6. Click "PENTAX K-7".

  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see four files to download - WOBA6238.DNG, WOBA6238.JPG, WOBA6238.JPG and WOBA6244.JPG. File sizes vary from 9.5MB to 11.9MB per file, and the two DNG files mirror the contents of the JPEG file pair in Adobe's open Raw format.

  8. To download the DNG Raw files, click on the yellow folder icon for each file. This step is important, as if you click on the filename or the white page icon, you'll be presented with a download for a small TIFF thumbnail, not the full DNG file.
