Handheld tripod device receives US patent

Buffalo, NY (MMD Newswire) June 1, 2010 -- Quik Pod®, the world's first handheld tripod, allows the family photographer to be included in each photo quickly and easily.

Quik Pod®, a newly patented invention available in stores and online, fixes the problem of dad being stuck behind the camera and out of the photo on Father's Day. No one ever has to ask a stranger again for help in taking a photo. In addition to Father's Day, it's a great gift for travelers, hikers, graduates, You Tube video creators and Facebook portrait takers.

Quik Pod®, which starts at less than $25, is designed by inventor Wayne Fromm whose previous creations included popular toys such as Disney's Beauty and the Beast Talking Mirror. "I was traveling with my family and I just got tired of those bad pictures I took by sticking out my arm and pointing the camera at all of us.

I tried asking strangers to take pictures of us, so I could be in the family photos and videos, but those pictures don't always turn out either. So I figured there must be an easier, better way, and I came up with the idea for Quik Pod®," he says. Quik Pod® is light (weighs less than a pair of sunglasses), pocket sized and comes with a built-in self-image mirror to center each shot. This allows the photographer to be included in photos and videos without asking strangers to operate their camera. The photographer has control rather than handing their camera over to a stranger. Made of space aged polycarbonate and machined aluminum, it extends to capture your own face perfectly centered in each group photo. It's waterproof for underwater photography and goes through airport security. All models come with a travel bag, pocket clip, hiking clip and wrist strap and the Pro+ model includes tripod legs. Quik Pod® attaches in seconds to all cameras and camcorders on the market today with a standard tripod socket and self-timer including the iPhone with the iPhone adapter. There is a model for all cameras from point & shoots to DSLR. Also can be used for overhead shots at parades and concerts.

"I tried more than 100 prototypes before I was satisfied with the Quik Pod® that's now available. But it was worth the effort. I took a Quik Pod® to Oprah Magazine's 10th Anniversary show in New York last month and people from all over wanted to buy one. I would buy one even if I hadn't invented it, " Fromm says.

You can check out Quik Pod® at www.quikpod.com. Quik Pod® Pro + can be purchased at www.quikpod.com., J&R, Amazon.com, Adorama, B&H, Calumet Photographic, Magellan's Catalog and more.
