Nikon Inc. has today published an advisory regarding pirated versions of its imaging applications being sold by unspecified third parties.

According to the announcement on Nikon's support site, the company has found unauthorized product keys for Capture NX, Capture NX 2, Camera Control Pro, and Camera Control Pro 2 being sold online. Nikon notes that as such keys are discovered, they are being remotely disabled to prevent their continued use. Customers receiving a warning message that their software is unauthorized are advised to contact the company, if they believe their product key to be legitimate.

To avoid potential problems, Nikon is recommending customers only to buy CD packaged versions of its software from authorized online or brick-and-mortar stores, or product keys from Nikon's own online store. The company states that its own store is the only source authorized to sell software product keys for Nikon applications.

More details can be found in the advisory.
