Another step by NAVTEQ in driving location-enabled imaging experiences

SINGAPORE, May 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world is supplying NAVTEQ® map and location data for the newly launched Olympus TOUGH TG-810 compact digital camera.

The TG-810 features GPS functions and an electronic compass to record the location data of the shot. By simply activating the GPS functionality, the camera can display landmarks on the monitor and identify the country/region of the shot being taken. Integrated within the TG810 are NAVTEQ® maps and Points of Interest (POI) ranging from tourist destinations, museums to ferry terminals and railway stations. So users now have the ability to geographically organize their photos effortlessly, allowing them to easily determine the precise location of where the photo was taken and link it with the exact POI on the NAVTEQ map. This added capability allows NAVTEQ and Olympus to deliver an enhanced imaging experience to consumers.

"Digital cameras and camcorders are among the latest and fastest growing market segments to integrate maps and location content. This is our second announcement in recent months related to the use of NAVTEQ location content in spearheading compelling location-enabled imaging experiences. NAVTEQ continues to develop innovative content that enables our industry collaborators to bring better and more differentiated offerings to their consumers," said Rich Shuman, senior vice president, Asia Pacific, NAVTEQ Sales.

"We selected NAVTEQ for its superior map accuracy and extensive global coverage. We believe that NAVTEQ has the capability to deliver next generation content that will enable Olympus to elevate the overall imaging experience to the next level," said Takashi Muroi, General Manager, Product Planning Dept., Olympus Imaging Corp.
