Germany's Hama GmbH & Co KG has announced several new products for photographers and videographers, the most interesting of which is a remote infrared beam trigger for its DCC System; the other items include a USB 3.0 card reader and a portable print / negative scanner.

Hama's DCC System is a multi-component remote shutter release system that works with cameras from Canon, Fujifilm, Konica-Minolta, Kodak, Leica, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, Pentax, Samsung, and Sony. A variety of products in the system allow for cabled or wireless remote release with separate trigger of autofocus and shutter, and advanced functionality such as interval shooting or capture at a predetermined date and time. The new Hama 5203 Base IR Remote Release consists of an infrared transmitter that creates an invisible light beam, and a receiver that automatically trips the shutter of an attached camera when the beam is broken. The devices can be positioned up to five meters apart, and are each tripod-mountable. The receiver has a relatively short cable attaching it to the camera, however a five meter 5215 extension cable is available if more separation is needed between the light beam and the camera. The combination allows photographers, for example, to set up a camera at the finish line of a sporting event to capture an image at the moment the winner crosses the line. UK pricing is set at around £80 for the Base IR Remote Release system, which draws power from two AAA batteries in each device. Cables adapting the remote release device to individual camera brands are priced at around £10 each.

Simultaneously, Hama has announced its 95271 A6-format Combo Digital Photo Scanner, which accepts strips of negatives and prints up to 10 x 15 cm. Photos are scanned at 300 dpi, and negatives at 1200 dpi, with both figures presumably relating to the step size; the optical resolution of the scanner isn't stated. The scanner has USB 2.0 high speed connectivity or can write images to SD / SDHC / MMC / Memory Stick / Memory Stick Pro media, and takes five seconds to scan a photo print, or ten seconds to scan six 35mm negative frames.

Finally, the Hama 39878 All in One USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Multi Card Reader accepts CompactFlash Type-I or Type-II, MicroSD / MicroSDHC, MMC / MMC Plus, Memory Stick / Pro / Select, Memory Stick Duo / PRO Duo / PRO Duo HG, MS Micro, SD / SDHC / SDXC, SmartMedia, and xD-Picture Card media, and supports UDMA mode 7 transfer with compatible cards. It ships with a USB 3.0 cable, and has a two year warranty.

Pricing and availability for the scanner and card reader weren't known at press time.
