Original Source Press Release:
Panasonic LS5: New entry-level compact camera|
(Thursday, July 21, 2011 - 01:01 EDT)
Alongside its long-zoom FZ47 model, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Co. has also revealed its upcoming Panasonic LS5 entry-level compact.
The Panasonic Lumix LS5 digital camera coupled a 14.1 megapixel, 1/2.33"-type CCD image sensor with an unbranded 5x optical zoom lens. The LS5's lens provides a generous 26mm-equivalent wide angle, and features true optical image stabilization system. The lens' two-step aperture offers a maximum aperture varying from F2.8 at wide angle to a rather dim F6.5 at telephoto.
The LS5's rear panel features a 2.7" LCD display, but no optical viewfinder. ISO sensitivity ranges from 100 to 1,600 equivalents, which can be extended as far as ISO 6,400 equivalent in High Sensitivity mode. As well as JPEG still images, the Panasonic LS5 can capture 30 fps movies at 1280 x 720 pixels or below, using the older QuickTime Motion JPEG compression type. Data is stored on Secure Digital cards, including the newer SDHC and SDXC types, while power comes from two standard AA batteries.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS5 ships from November 2011, and pricing is expected to be announced in early November. For more details, read our Panasonic LS5 preview.
