Palo Alto-based design consultancy to develop new digital products...

A press release from SiPix Group Ltd. subsidiary SiPix Inc. notes that it has contracted IDEO, well-known for such memorable designs as 3Com's Audrey Internet appliance, HandSpring's Visor Edge and Palm Computing's Palm V personal digital assistants, and TiVo Inc.'s TiVo digital video recorder, to develop a new line of SiPix digital imaging and PDA accessories. The first of these accessories will be shown at PC Expo, June 26-28, 2001 in New York.

No further details as to the planned products or their availability has been announced at this time. Other well-known companies who've used the services of IDEO include Amtrak, the BBC, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, Hoover, Logitech, NEC, Nike, Pepsi-Cola, Polaroid, Samsung, TDK and Xerox. Some of the company's past designs can be seen on the IDEO website.

SiPix Inc. was spun off from SiPix Group Ltd. last January, and announced that it had received US$100 million in funding at that time. The company has facilities in place or under construction in Zhuhai and Shanghai, China, which will enable it to manufacture one million digital cameras per month. It also has five research and development labs in the US, China and Taiwan. The company began shipping its first products, a 2.1 megapixel digicam, 0.3 megapixel webcam and monochrome thermal printer last month.
