Canadian, Japanese users await firmware update; US cameras will already have update and ship-date is unaffected...

Nikon Japan and Nikon Canada have simultaneously announced the discovery of a firmware bug in the Coolpix 995 digital camera which can cause degraded image quality, a noisy LCD preview and possible camera lock-up when the lens portion of the camera is rotated past the vertical position. Our contacts at Nikon USA advise us that the camera, which is not yet on the market here, will ship with updated firmware which corrects this problem - and importantly that the projected ship date will not significantly change. The Coolpix 995 should ship in the USA by the end of this month.

For the Japanese, Canadian and European markets where the Coolpix 995 is already available, updated firmware (version 1.6) will be released to correct the problem, and a solution for users who don't want to update the camera themselves will also be made available. Announcements will be made on the relevant Nikon websites once this firmware is available...
