SiPix Offers First All-in-One Digital Camera and Printer for under $300

Affordable and stylish SCP-1000 is industry’s most affordable Digital Instant Camera for business and everyday photographers

PC EXPO/TECHXNY, New York, June 26, 2001–– SiPix, Inc., The Digital Imaging Appliance Company, today announced a combined digital camera and printer, the SCP-1000 Digital Instant Camera. The marriage of a digital camera with a 2 x 2.5 inch continuous tone photo printer provides mobile professionals and photographers with an inexpensive instant digital print and share solution. The SCP-1000 will be available in August and will have a suggested retail price of $299.

The affordable SCP-1000 offers the combined benefits of a digital camera and a photo printer, without the need for a PC, creating an in-the-field Digital Instant Camera at only 50 cents per photo.

The SCP-1000 is a VGA digital still camera with four megabytes of internal memory with room for up to 56 stored images. The camera is CompactFlash ready, which provides unlimited storage when using digital media. In addition, the camera includes a 2x digital zoom, a four-mode built in flash, a dual mode self timer, manual white balance, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and battery charger. When printing, the camera uses thermal color transfer technology to produce colorful and vibrant prints. The SCP-1000 also emulates a mass storage USB enabled device and can act as a dedicated USB photo printer with any compatible PC.

"Digital imaging has always been about capturing, printing and sharing," said
IDC research analyst for digital cameras and scanners, Chris Chute. "SiPix has fused image capture and printing, two technologies that have operated separately, into an intriguing and affordable product. The ability to capture digital pictures and print them anywhere, without having to connect to a PC, will further enable both business and consumer applications."

Whether you’re a real estate agent documenting a property, an insurance adjuster or a family member on vacation, photos can be instantly printed and given away to friends and family, or to a perspective client at the site. Not only can you print on the go, but also you’ll always have access to your digital image for later downloading or transfer when the camera is attached to a computer.

Support and Warranty

The SCP-1000 uses specially designed paper and color cartridges from SiPix. A color cartridge will be included with every 20 piece package of photo quality paper. The color cartridge takes the guesswork out of confusing ink levels as it uses advanced thermal color transfer and is designed to be replaced with each new package of paper. These packages will be available at the retail level for $9.99. Value packs will also be available, 3 packages each including 20 pieces of photo quality paper each and a color cartridge, for $24.99.

The SiPix SCP-1000 includes a USB cable, camera strap, a video cable, a 9V rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery, a battery charger, a 20-piece paper package and a color cartridge and a Quick start guide. The two CD-ROMs contain MGI PhotoSuite III SE, the SCP-1000 TWAIN driver and Adobe Acrobat Reader and a PDF owner’s manual.

The camera is backed by a one-year warranty and toll free technical support offered for one year from purchase. The toll free technical support number is 1-866-888-1678, and is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pacific Time, and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time. Lifetime technical support is available at no additional charge at 408-719-5076 with the same hours as above.
