Bilingual German website needs help to support its English-language version...

Our good friends at the bilingual website digitalkamera.de, which we have often referred readers to in the past, have posted an appeal for help in saving their English-language version of the site. The site's publisher, MediaNord, lost long-time sponsor Olympus Europe in March 2001, and has since been financing the considerable costs of translating and hosting its English version with funds from the German version. This has proved difficult however, and so the painful decision has been made that unless a new sponsor can be found before the end of the month, the site will have to revert to providing its pages in German only.

According to digitalkamera.de's Yvan Boeres, the site is seeking funding of at least €2,500 (US$2143) per month to cover the costs of the English language version assuming the current format is retained. MediaNord are open to any creative solutions as to how to sustain or develop the English-language content, and note that it would also be possible for the costs to be divided amongst several sponsors. If your company might be able to help fund this valuable resource in whole or part, or if you could put MediaNord in touch with anybody who can help, we're sure they'd be happy to hear from you. Contact Yvan Boeres, who is fluent in English, either by email or by telephone at +49 173 2445989.

Digitalkamera.de is amongst the oldest digital imaging sites on the web, having been established in March 1997, and with origins as far back as Summer 1996. The site receives 2.3 million page views per month, of which the English version, established in November 1998, accounts for about 20%.
