The Nikon Coolpix S570 features a sleek, compact body housing a 2.7-inch LCD with anti-reflective coating. The Nikon S570 offers twelve megapixels of resolution, and couples this with a Nikkor-branded 5x optical zoom lens that yields focal lengths ranging from a useful 28mm-equivalent wide angle to a 140mm-equivalent telephoto. Sensitivity from the CCD imager ranges up to a maximum of ISO 3,200 equivalent at full resolution, but there's no form of mechanical image stabilization. Instead, the Nikon Coolpix S570 offers only what the company terms "Electronic VR Image Stabilization" - effectively a combination of software deblurring and the use of high ISO sensitivities to freeze motion at the expense of image noise and/or subject detail.
Nikon's Scene Auto Selector mode gives the camera the ability to automatically select the correct scene mode for the situation - be it a landscape, portrait, or perhaps a macro photo. When in portrait mode, the Nikon Coolpix S570 also offers both a smile shutter function wherein the camera automatically releases the shutter when the subject of your photo smiles, as well as a blink warning that displays a message on-screen if your subject's eyes weren't open.
For viewing images on a television, the Nikon S570 has standard-definition video output with NTSC / PAL compatibility. A rechargeable EN-EL10 Lithium Ion battery is included with the Coolpix S570, and should yield 220 shots on a charge. Both SD and SDHC memory cards can be used, and the S570 also includes 47MB of built-in memory..
The Nikon Coolpix S570 is available in a choice of four colors – black, red, blue or pink. It should ship in the USA from September 2009 with pricing of about $200.
