Closely related to the Nikon Coolpix S610 alongside which it was announced, the Nikon Coolpix S610c differs mostly in its inclusion of WiFi connectivity. The Coolpix S610c is compatible with wifi service from Wayport, as featured in over 9,700 McDonalds restaurants, as well as several hundred other locations including hotel chains. Wayport access is included free through August 31st, 2011; after that a subscription must be purchased to continue using the feature. Compatible with Wi-Fi Protected Setup, the Nikon S610c can also be used on home wireless LANs.

The Nikon S610c offers a compact, slim body featuring a 10 megapixel CCD image sensor coupled to a wide-angle 4x zoom Nikkor-branded lens that offers a 28 - 112mm equivalent focal range. There's also lens-based optical image stabilization, and a 3.0-inch LCD screen with 230,000 dot resolution and anti-reflective coating. The Nikon S610c offers ISO sensitivities up to 3200 max, and includes Face-Priority AF capable of identifying up to twelve faces within the frame, which are then taken into account when determining exposure and focusing variables.

The Nikon S610c's in-camera Red-Eye Fix function automatically corrects red-eye in-camera, and an Active Child Mode tracks movement of subjects and optimising focusing appropriately. There is also a D-Lighting feature on the S610, compensating for insufficient or excessive lighting in shooting situations. No less than sixteen scene modes are available to help photographers customise their images without needing to undersand the subtleties of shutter speeds, apertures and the like. A Scene Auto Selector mode allows the Coolpix S610c to automatically choose between Close-up, Portrait, Landscape, Backlight, Night Portrait, and Night Landscape scene modes as appropriate.

The Nikon Coolpix S610c includes the company's Coolpix Software Suite for image editing and organizing. Power comes from an EN-EL12 rechargeable Li-Ion battery rated as good for 290 shots. The camera accepts both SD and SDHC memory cards, but not MMC cards (which are ordinarily acceptable in most SD-based cameras). At an expected price of US$280, the Coolpix S610c will be available in the USA beginning in September 2008. Body color choices are Midnight Black, Smoke Gray and Deep Red.
