Nikon D200 Features Comparison

The Nikon D200 sports a number of significant improvements over its predecessor, the very well-received but now aging D100. The higher sensor resolution is only part of the story, as the D200 is an enormously more sophisticated camera; really a "baby D2x," the diminutive there referring only to its size. In the table below, green tints highlight differences between the D100 and D200, the green block indicating the camera that has a relative advantage in that area. (The one yellow block, Metering System Working Range, indicates that the D200 has both advantages and disadvantages relative to the D100 there: The D200's metering system is more sensitive in spot metering mode, but is limited to brightness levels of 20 EV vs the 21 EV of the D100.)

Comparing the D200 to the D2S/D2Xs, you'll see just how much of the D2x's technology has been incorporated into the D200. What of course doesn't show in this table is the D200's rugged build quality and impressive, sure-footed handling.
