Olympus FE-5050 Overview
Posted: 08/18/2010
The Olympus FE-5050 is a compact, entry-level digital camera based around a 1/2.3-inch type CCD image sensor with fourteen megapixel resolution. The FE-5050's imager sits behind an Olympus-branded 5x optical zoom lens that offers focal lengths ranging from a generous 26mm wide angle to a useful 130mm telephoto. No optical or mechanical image stabilization is provided in the FE-5050.
The rear panel of the Olympus FE-5050 offers up a 2.7-inch LCD display of unspecified resolution, that's a little smaller than the 3.0-inch panels found on most cameras these days. This display is the only method of framing and reviewing images, since the Olympus FE-5050 lacks any form of optical or electronic viewfinder.
As well as still images at resolutions up to 4,288 x 3,216 pixels, the Olympus FE-5050 can also capture standard definition movies at VGA resolution or below, although the frame rate and audio details aren't specified. Images and movies are stored on Secure Digital or SDHC cards, but not the latest SDXC types, which are incompatible with the FE-5050. Power comes from an Li-42B lithium ion rechargeable battery pack.
The Olympus FE-5050 has not been announced in the US market at this time.
