The Fujifilm FinePix J150w has a compact body whose front panel holds a useful 5x optical zoom lens offering a 28mm-equivalent wide angle, and a 140mm-equivalent telephoto. Behind this lens sits a 1/2.3" CCD image sensor with ten megapixel resolution. Sadly, there's no mechanical image stabilization, with the Fujifilm J150w limited to what Fuji is terming "Picture Stabilization mode" which merely boost the ISO sensitivity (and hence shutter speeds / noise levels) so as to try and freeze camera shake. The Fuji FinePix J150w's rear panel has no provision for an optical viewfinder, instead opting solely for a large 3.0" LCD display with 230,000 dots of resolution. ISO sensitivity ranges up to a maximum of ISO 1,600 equivalent at full resolution (3,200 max at a reduced three megapixel resolution).

Belying its entry-level position and economic pricetag, the Fuji J150w doesn't offer a lot in the way of manual controls - instead focusing on simplicity and ease of use. Focusing modes include either Center AF or Face Detection - this latter being capable of detecting up to six faces in a scene. As well as being linked to the autofocus and autoexposure systems, the Fujifilm J150w's face detection function includes automatic post-exposure red-eye removal. Shutter speeds range from 8 seconds to 1/2000 second, and apertures from F3.3 - F5.2 at wide angle, or F5.1 - F8.0 at telephoto. These are all controlled automatically, with thirteen scene modes offering the J150w owner's main method of controlling the look of images. The Fuji FinePix J150w is also capable of recording VGA or QVGA videos at 30 frames-per-second with sound, although the zoom function is disabled during movie recording. Movies are saved in AVI format using QuickTime Motion JPEG compression.

The Fujifilm FinePix J150w stores its images on SD or SDHC cards or in 24MB of built-in memory. Power comes from an NP-45 Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. Available from September 2008 with pricing of about $200, the Fuji FinePix J150w will be available in matte black or brushed silver finishes in the US market.
