The Samsung NV11 digital camera derives a resolution of ten megapixels from a 1/1.8" CCD imager, and couples this with much of the feature set from last year's NV10 model, but with some interesting changes. Most signficantly, the NV10's 3x optical zoom lens has been replaced by a much more useful 5x zoom which is still branded as a Schneider-Kreuznach Varioplan, and has a 38 - 190mm equivalent zoom range, and a maximum aperture of f/2.8 at wide angle, or f/4.4 at telephoto. The other main change is the use of a 2.7" LCD display that dominates the back of the camera, in place of the 2.5" display in the NV10. This is surrounded by a whopping thirteen unmarked buttons that are accompanied by a graphical user interface on the LCD that guides you as to their functions.
Twelve scene modes should help make the camera approachable for beginners. Images are stored on SD / MMC cards, or in 20MB of built in memory, and power comes from a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. The Samsung NV11 ships this Spring priced at $399.99.
