Samsung NX11 Overview
Only limited information is available on the Samsung NX11 at this time, but we do know that it is very closely related to the company's existing NX10 model, which we reviewed in April 2010. One difference from the NX10 is that the Samsung NX11 now natively supports i-Function lenses, something which was possible with the NX10 only after a firmware upgrade. This being the case, Samsung has also switched to an i-Function kit lens, which adds a button on the lens barrel that lets users change settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, white balance, and ISO sensitivity without moving their hand, by turning the focusing ring (meaning that the lens also uses fly-by-wire focusing.) The press release states that the Samsung NX11 will ship with an 18-55mm i-Function lens, "as well as" a 20mm pancake and 20-50mm zoom, but given the overlap between these lenses it would seem illogical to include them all, and so we believe this is likely a typo. We're awaiting clarification on that point.
In other areas, we only know of a handful of changes from the NX10. The grip design of the Samsung NX11 is said to have been changed to make the camera more comfortable to shoot with, and a lens priority mode dial has been added, which is rather cryptically said to "[simplify] the search for the best mode for each lens". There's also a panorama mode which we believe to be a new addition. In other areas, the Samsung NX11 retains what we believe to be the same 14.6 megapixel CMOS image sensor, NX lens mount, VGA electronic viewfinder, 3.0-inch AMOLED display, built-in flash, and hot shoe.
The Samsung NX11 ships in the US market from February 2011, priced at US$649.
