The Hewlett-Packard R847 couples a 3x Fujinon-branded lens with an eight megapixel imager and provides a generous 3.0 inch LCD display for image framing or review. There's no optical viewfinder though - something that's become an increasingly rare in modern digital cameras, unfortunately.

R847 shooting modes include Action, Auto (default), Beach, Close Up, Landscape, Night Portrait, Panorama left, Panorama right, Portrait, Snow, Steady Photo, Sunset and Theatre. The R847 offers ISO sensitivity settings of Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800 and 1600 and exposure compensation of +/-2.0 EV in 1/2 EV steps. Other HP R847 features include in-camera red-eye removal and pet-eye fix, HP Design Gallery (artistic effects, borders, colors), slimming and HP touch-up, adaptive lighting, in-camera panorama preview and stitching, and a 640 x 480 pixel, 24 frames-per-second movie mode.

Images captured on the HP Photosmart R847 are transferred to your computer over a USB 1.1 connection, rather slower than the USB 2.0 High Speed connections offered on most current cameras. The R847 derives its power from a proprietary Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, and a charger/AC adapter is included in the bundle. The HP R847 is covered by a 1 year warranty, comes with HP Photosmart software and is Windows Vista ready.

The Hewlett-Packard Photosmart R847 is priced at US$229.99 and ships from August 2007.
